GOBHI Providers Behavioral Health Newsletter June 2024

Update From the GOBHI Leadership

Hello all,

At the June 7th EOCCO Board meeting the board voted Ann as the President of EOCCO. This will allow us to elevate the great work that GOBHI does in the EOCCO region.

HB 4092, work to reduce administrative burden and require a cost study for CMHP safety net services is regularly meeting and diving into the statutes that govern the BH system in Oregon. This is an intensive process requiring the collaboration of many system partners with very tight deadlines. The first report with recommendations on statute changes is in December of 2024. GOBHI/EOCCO remains deeply involved in this work.

The Compliance Team has been working on deliverables, developing training, reviewing policy and procedures, attending RACs for rule changes, conducting audits and providing technical assistance. Our team consists of Mark Martinez , Beatrice Olivan, Becky Miller, Sam Shea and Karen Cady.

OHA is proposing major changes to the care coordination rules which will affect both CMHP’s and CCO’s and recently hosted a set of rules advisory committees (RAC’s) to review the rules. You may submit additional input to Diane Quiring (diane.s.quiring@oha.oregon.gov) no later than 5 PM on July 5, 2024. For more information visit https://www.oregon.gov/oha/hsd/pages/rac.aspx

Peer Workforce Conference

The 2024 Eastern Oregon Peer Workforce Conference is less than 2 months away! It will be held at Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, on August 22 - 23, 2024, and the theme is Holistic Wellness & Self-Care. Throughout the two days, there will be 16 workshops available, all tailored to peer support, as well as keynote speakers and an Eastern Oregon Peer Panel. This conference will focus on the unique needs of peer support specialists who work and reside in Eastern Oregon.

Currently, there are 140 employed peer workers of all specialty types throughout EOCCO’s 12-county region, and the Peer Conference is an opportunity for all peers to come together in one location for networking opportunities, social connection between like minded individuals, professional development of skills specific to peer support, and develop/increase leadership skills. Being able to collaborate with the various experiences will expose peers to different perspectives, which is key to supporting diversity across Eastern Oregon in various organizations that employ peer workers.

The overarching goal of this conference is to help grow the peer support profession and promote the inclusion of peer support specialists throughout healthcare and other community systems across Eastern Oregon.
